Getting a strong Core. So much more than just a flat belly.

I talk a lot about strengthening our cores in all my classes. I am frequently reminding to think about having an activated core, and about the benefits a strong core has for us.

You may associate ‘Core’ with six packs or flat bellies. But it is so much more than this. The core is the band of muscles all around our torso: front, back and side.

It can weaken through our sedentary lifestyles and through just not realising how to best activate it and keep it strong. And its so important for us in almost everything we do. Standing, sitting, moving, lifting, bending.

I might come across as a little bit obsessed, but its for a very good reason, because if we get our core activation right then we really do get the very most out of all our exercise, and it will make exercising, and everyday life, easier too.

Here are links to a couple of articles that explain more about what the core comprises, why it’s important to strengthen and look after it, and how we can do that, some of which we do in both Tai Chi QiGong Shibashi and Zumba Gold.

I probably won’t stop talking about it as I really believe in getting the most possible benefit out of any exercise, as well as it being enjoyable and fun. Of course, don't just take my word for it. These articles are an interesting read and/or listen if you are curious and want to find out more.
